In 2020, at the “Monis Rache” festival, film footage was taken of people with vulvas on portable toilets and published on porn platforms against their will. Within a few days, a space that had always framed itself as “left” became a place full of violence and assault. As a result, people decided not to let this slide. The “Revenge on Patriarchy” demonstration was born as an expression of collective anger. However, this demonstration and the collective idea behind it are not only related to this one incident.
People experience patriarchal and sexualized violence on a daily basis. From sexualized assaults at festivals, in bars, and in collectives that portray themselves as anti-sexist, to queerphobic violence that is still normalized and actively perpetrated by authorities and institutions, to feminicide that are rarely reported in mainstream media. We are in a crisis.
In exercising patriarchal power, oppressive forces ranging from individuals to institutions compete with each other and attempt to weave a web that maintains the status quo of sexism and further oppresses those affected.
Even the places we want to use as alternative safe spaces offer no protection. It doesn’t matter how many signs and stickers against sexism and patriarchy are hung in these spaces. It doesn’t matter how often the cis man in the plenary session emphasizes that he wants to beat up all perpetrators. It doesn’t matter that sexism “is not tolerated here.” None of that matters when it happens anyway. None of that matters when people repeatedly experience violence in precisely these spaces and situations, when they repeatedly have to defend themselves, when they repeatedly have to fight, and when they repeatedly ask themselves whether they will survive the next day.
We know that this is not only a german problem. We therefore stand in clear solidarity with our siblings worldwide. Whether in Rojava, Iran, Sudan, Palestine or elsewhere. Patriarchal violence tries to oppress us globally.
We stand against this. Against the normal state of sexism. Every day, with every breath we take. In private and in public, in Berlin and internationally.

We do not want reforms. We want the revolution!
